Engaging Hoonah’s youth in natural resource monitoring, science, and other environmental fields is necessary in order to develop local leaders and effectively steward our community’s bountiful natural resources. By providing interdisciplinary experiences for youth we support their passions for science and environmental fields, introduce them to new opportunities, and help prepare them for careers and higher education in those fields. We regularly work with Hoonah City Schools to supplement their classes and help coordinate dual enrollment college courses, as well as host the paid Alaskan Youth Stewards AYS/TRAYLS program every summer.

We’re always looking for more opportunities to engage Hoonah youth in science, natural resource management, and environmental fields. Please contact Julian Narvaez (julian.narvaez@hiatribe.org or 907-802-3220) if you’d like to get involved!
