Each year the Hoonah Community potato garden gets a little bit bigger. This year was our highest yield yet with local Hoonah City School students, HIA staff, and a few young helpers extracting 156 lbs of potatoes. The project received funding from Alaska Village Initiatives to purchase a high tunnel. We used the opportunity to expand our grow area by 4x in 2025. If our math is right we’ll be on track for almost 600 lbs of potatoes in 2026! From our harvest this year we are over wintering 15 gallons of seed potatoes for the garden next year.
